Dear Readers:

I'm looking for feedback on a potential DEATH prequel. A fan has contacted me asking for more details of Parker and the inception of the Pulse Era. Please comment here if you're interested in seeing a novella-length Death Prequel (15-20K words, since I can't seem to write "short"), giving background that may be interesting to tide everyone over until WEEPS. Your thoughts are appreciated !

Thank you Readers~ Tamara

A small passage from VENGEANCE & WEEPS:

Except Tiff, she walked beside Caleb. The pair listened to the low drone of the dead at their feet, everywhere they stepped held the murmur of their discontent.

Nobody mentioned the odds of a handful of teenagers against seventy of the fragment.

   Courage is ignoring your fear.

  2. That would be great to learn more about these people, if its not already in your minds eye to have all that stuff in Weeps or Unrequited then i say go for it!!

I LOVE Jade and Caleb together so i wouldnt like to see them fall apart. They just seem right together... at the same time i can see where his over protectiveness might push her away a bit. If Jade went to Brett, that would cause a little death intent for sure on calebs part.

As far as Caleb getting out of trouble with the Police, I would hope that they could see he had no choice but to use his new friends to help save the lives of himself, his friends and all the AP people, but to do that he will have to get control of his gift to prove hes not a bull in a china shop all the time. He will have to maure a little more and quick.

Clyde should remain what he was in the last book, Dead but very much alive. And should start some weird relationship with Bobbi. might be a good twist. might not.

  3. @anonymous... ty for your vote!

@Heather... thanks so much for your thoughts. That's what I'm looking for. I write for intrigue but not dissatisfaction, if that makes sense? Reader thoughts are critical to the success and pleasure of the series... ty! I've added a [small] passage that will appear in book #3 of The Savage Vengeance and Death Weeps (see above). These installments will have tandem passages. It has been GREAT! ty~ :)

  4. I would like to read the prequel as well. Seeing how Parker ended up where he is would help round him out as a character for me, instead of always being the villain with partially unknown intentions.

  5. @anonymous... I know what his intentions are and they will be revealed in future books. But, I will say, Parker has not had a normal upbringing. He was brilliant and neglected. That is not a good combo. An eccentric and intelligent maleable mind subjected to manipulation does not promote emotional stability! Since one of my readers contacted me, the idea (for the prequel) has been pinging around in my head.. I didn't want to write it unless there was sufficient interest as I have full-length novels I'm working on :) But, Singers is nearly done and possibly I could do it in-between. We'll see what you and other readers think. That's really the deciding factor for me.

Really appreciate you thoughts :) ty~

  6. Okay, this may be slightly self-serving but I'd love to know more about the Pulse Era stuff. I love the techy-SciFi stuff.

  7. Yeah... but you liked Death before we became acquainted so you're in the clear! lol! Thanks for that, Stephanie~ :)

  8. I definitely say go for it. I don't think you could go wrong writing a prequel and I'm sure there are more people than will comment on here that'd appreciate/love it as well!

  9. @Kali... thanks, that's just what I'm looking for. Seems readers want to know about Pulse/tech and Parker. But there is some genetic explanation that would be interesting as well. :)

  10. Is the series maxing out at 5 books, plus this possible prequel or is there a possibility that it will extend out further than the 5? I always get sad when a series ends. and Yes i would love to know more about Parker. I just love your books and they keep me on my toes. :)

  11. Well, you know my thoughts on the prequel subject!! Anything with Parker as the hero/villian is an awesome bonus. I, however, would love it to be full length instead of a short novella!! Or as a spin-off series!! But I'll take what I can get!! hehe!!! I would also like more info about Caleb's fathers involvement, and the possiblity that Caleb's grandpa has some secrets in his past!!

As far as how Caleb may avoid getting out of trouble. Maybe Parker has some shady hand in getting the charges dropped, but only if Caleb agrees to work with the greysheets.

  12. @Shannon... okay quit! You're entirely too clever. That is the exact precepts that I would expound on. The supporting cast of adults are all involved in those things in their own capacity!

The Graysheets have their hand in EVERY PIE! They are so prolific in that time (2010 to the late 20's). They feature prominently, as do their motivations. The impact of everything can be traced to them... the scalawags!

I appreciate your thoughts on prequel/vs. full-length. I just had another reader mention I may wish to combine it with Weeps (as an "extra" or the like...)

    Thanks, Shannon~ :D

@Heather... I am a little intimidated about readers getting "sick of" Death. ( I get sad too when a series must end.) I have already thought about book 6 though... no plot yet but a firm title, DEATH DREAMS. Each title reflects, to some extent, the happenings of the book... Thanks for your thoughts, all of them~ :)

  14. @Michelle... hey thanks!! I would not sacrifice the release date for the prequel but think I have the cover/storyline/blurb hammered out now. I didn't anticipate how much readers would like to know some back story. The cool thing about that is with a separate prequel, readers can choose to read the backstory without it being peppered throughout an installment and bogging down the pacing. I really try to maintain action and pacing in my books. Thanks for your input!

@Anonymous... I LOVE to hear that! DEATH kept your interest! *fantastic* that's what I go for, pure entertainment. A prequel will not make any books promised release dates "slower." As an voracious reader myself, I can't stand books that release slow/not as promised/ one-per-year etc (I have never forgotten that!). That's the beauty of being Indie, deferring to reader demand. Thanks so much for your support, both of you!

*watch for a post in the next day or two with the blurb and book cover/title for the Death Prequel =)

    2. No, it won't delay anything. It will be a fun, shorter novel for the summer between full-length offerings. Thanks!!! That's what I like to write, a little bit of everything to maintain reader interest. Plus! I personally like great pacing and action as a reader... that's the goal for my writing :)

  15. Hi Tamara,

I love the idea of a prequel. But heres a thought, how about 2 prequels. 1 Parker coming into his power and 2 Parker's work for the greyheets up to his first encounter with Caleb in the first book? These could be books 6 and 7.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hey David,

Like my other readers, you're clever and thinking logically about the progression of the series. The prequel is really "Parker's book," in that, it showcases the debauchery of the Graysheets. I don't know about books 6&7 yet. I have 4&5 written in my head. Which is totally the way it always is! If the Death Series continues to do well, I see no reason, if I did have the next book's plot, I wouldn't go forward. I have begun to ask readers about their thoughts so I can tailor (as much as I'm able) some of the things they'd like to see, questions answered and so forth. Readers seem happy with it and it helps my direction. Thanks so much for your input! I can't say that enough. And please if you like the series, tell your friends! Word of mouth is the most critical element to an author's success (IMHO). Take care~ Tamara :)

  19. @Michelle... great news to hear! Savage and Death are so different from each other that I'm always nervous readers will like both (probably shouldn't admit that!). =) I'm thrilled you liked the savages'! Ty for your feedback, I <3 to hear from my readers!
